Global Road Safety report 2018 shows that Liberia recorded the highest number of road accidents per 100k population globally. The USA recorded 39,888 deaths in 2018, as estimated by a World Health Organization report, which translates to 12.4 deaths for every 100,000 people. Liberia, a country in West Africa, recorded the highest rate of road traffic deaths – around 35.9 deaths per 100,000 people.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) report underscored that the number of deaths due to road accidents in the US has dropped by nearly 1,000 in 2018. Nearly 36,560 people were killed in traffic collisions in 2018, a 2.4 percent decrease from 2017. Motor vehicle fatalities declined for the second consecutive year even though more people drove during that year. The declining trend was attributed to an increase in safety awareness and vehicle improvements.
