Telecom wing of Uttar Pradesh Police received applications from overqualified candidates for the post that required minimum qualification of class V.
The Times of India (TOI) reported that 62 peon posts were vacant after 12 years. The job was to deliver the department's telecom messages from one office to the other. The department received 93,500 applications, out of which only 7,400 studied between class V and class XII.
Normally the selection process required a self-declaration by the candidate stating the candidate knew to ride a bicycle, but due to the volume of the applications received by highly qualified candidates, a written examination was made mandatory. The base salary for the post was Rs. 20,000.
