The Taliban flogged a girl for wearing red pants in Afghanistan.

A video from Pakistan shows the Taliban punishing the girl for "immoral behavior." It has been miscaptioned and misattributed to be from Afghanistan.

A video from Pakistan shows the Taliban punishing the girl for "immoral behavior." It has been miscaptioned and misattributed to be from Afghanistan. The Taliban assumed control of Afghanistan on August 15, 2021, and there has been an upsurge in social media posts and videos about the prevailing situation. The atrocities against the people have been vividly documented in videos and photographs. Amid these old posts are circulating that misrepresents the current situation. Likewise, a video alleges the Taliban to have flogged a girl for wearing red pants in Afghanistan. The video shows the Taliban punishing a girl for being with a man other than his family member. This is a 2009 incident from Pakistan and not Afghanistan.

By reverse searching the keyframes from the video, we found it was uploaded in 2009, and the incident happened in the Swat Valley of Pakistan. According to reports, a teenage girl was flogged by Taliban militants publically. She was held down to the ground by two men, and the third man whipped her around 34 times.

The Guardian reported the Taliban spokesman Muslim Khan saying, "She came out of her house with another guy who was not her husband, so we must punish her. There are boundaries you cannot cross."

Several other reports suggested that there were rumors that she had illicit relations with another man, and she was punished for her immoral behavior. However, there was no evidence to support the allegation back then.

Although the Taliban can be seen punishing the girl, the caption and the place of the incident are incorrect.
