A powerful earthquake of up to 7.0 magnitude struck Turkey and Greece offshore on October 30, 2020. Both the countries felt the devastation.An earthquake of magnitude 7, on the Richter scale, had struck offshore of the Neon Kalovasion, Greece (North of Simos Island in the Eastern Aegean Sea) at 1:51 pm local time and felt about 9 miles North-Northeast of Neon Karlovasion, Greece just off the Turkish coast. It originated at a depth of 13 miles (21 kilometers).

At the Seferihisar coast of the Aegean Sea, it was 6.6 magnitude at 2:51 local time. The nearest settlement to the earthquake epicenter that took place 16.54 meters under the ground is the Seferihisar district of the İzmir province, Turkey. A total of 244 aftershocks (24 of them above four on the Richter scale) took place in the earthquake's aftermath.

Teams from Provincial AFAD Directorates of Istanbul, Afyon, Bursa, Sakarya, Kutahya, Eskisehir, Canakkale, Mugla ve Balıkesir, Manisa, Konya, Denizli, Usak, and Isparta arrived in the region. Fifty-three vehicles and 189 staff from UMKE and 112 Urgent Aid teams were assigned to carry out search and rescue activities in the area.

Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency(AFAD) had released 3 million Turkish Lira to carry out the disaster area activities. AFAD said that 17 people died, one due to drowning, and 709 people injured. In Samos, the Greek island, two teenagers, a boy, and a girl, were found dead in an area where a wall had collapsed. More than 90 fatalities and hundreds of injured needed medical care as per the Red Cross. Buildings have collapsed in both Samos, Greece, and Izmir, Turkey.
