Biden secured 306 electoral college votes, winning the previously Republican states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Trump secured only 232 votes and refused to concede he had lost.

On Dec. 14, 2020, the Electoral College officially voted Biden as the 46th President of the U.S., formalizing his November victory under the constitutional procedure. The Democratic electors cast their votes even in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, where Trump had contested the results. The states held brief ceremonies and recorded all of their votes for President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.

On Jan. 7, Congress certified Biden victory in the 2020 presidential elections. On Jan. 20, 2021, he was sworn as the 46th president of the United States and Vice President, Kamala Harris. It was the nation's 59th inaugural event. It marked a historical event of the first Asian-African American woman to succeed in the Vice President's office.
