Sardar Patel Stadium is renamed Narendra Modi Stadium.

Sardar Patel Stadium or Motera Stadium situated within the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave in Gujarat was renamed the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Sardar Patel Stadium or Motera Stadium situated within the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave in Gujarat was renamed the Narendra Modi Stadium. On Feb. 24, 2021, President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the newly reconstructed Motera cricket stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. It was renamed the Narendra Modi Stadium after the sitting Prime Minister Modi. Home Minister Amit Shah and Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah were also present during the inaugural ceremony. With a total capacity of 1,32,000, this stadium is the biggest in the world.

The government said the entire sports complex within which the Narendra Modi stadium is situated would continue to bear Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel's name. The name change involves only the Motera stadium. The clarification was issued when a controversy over the stadium rename appeared on social media, as many criticized it and called it an insult to the former Home Minister.

The stadium was constructed in 1982, and in 2015, Gujarat Cricket Association decided to reconstruct it into the world's largest stadium. The current Prime Minister Modi was then the Gujarat Cricket Association's President. The redevelopment task was accomplished in 2020. The former U.S. President Donald Trump had visited Motera Stadium for the 'Namaste Trump event on Feb. 24, 2019. The Narendra Modi Stadium broke the record by surpassing Melbourne Cricket Ground.
