Deepali Tyagi has sought compensation of ₹1 crore from an American Pizza chain for delivering non-veg pizza and hurting her religious beliefs.Deepali Tyagi from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, has approached the consumer court demanding one crore compensation from the American Pizza chain outlet for delivering a non-veg pizza. According to the petition filed by her, Deepali describes herself as a pure vegetarian because of her religious beliefs, family traditions, and one’s conscience.

The petition noted that Deepali had ordered a vegetarian pizza from an American Pizza outlet for her family in March 2019 after celebrating Holi during that day. She took a bite and realized that it was a non-vegetarian pizza as there were pieces of meat instead of mushrooms.

According to her lawyer Farhat Warsi, Deepali had immediately registered a complaint against the outlet's negligence for delivering a non-veg pizza to a house of pure vegetarians. A few days later, she received a call from the pizza outlet, offering to deliver free pizzas for her whole family. However, the complainant refused to accept the offer quoting that the restaurant had spoiled her religious practices and left her with permanent mental agony. She further said that the incident would cost her lakhs of rupees for performing several long and expensive rituals.

According to the recent developments, The Delhi District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has asked the pizza chain to file a response to the woman's complaint. It has adjourned the case for further hearing on March 17, 2021.
