Experts have warned that the world will not be fully lockdown-free due to COVID-19 till at least 2022.

A report by the Science Magazine projects transmission dynamics of the virus and says so, but it is speculation which cannot be verified objectively.

A report by the Science Magazine projects transmission dynamics of the virus and says so, but it is speculation which cannot be verified objectively. The Wired article reported the conversation between its editor-in-chief Nicholas Thompson and Senior Correspondent Adam Rogers, where a study is mentioned that warns of an oscillating effect that if the lockdowns are lifted entirely, the mitigated number of COVID-19 positive cases would spike again and result in another lockdown cycle which could last till 2022.

The Science Magazine has published a report titled 'Projecting the transmission dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 through the post-pandemic period' on 14 April 2020, according to which, scientists have estimated over seasonality, immunity, and cross-immunity for beta coronaviruses OC43 and HKU1 from time-series data from the U.S. to inform a model of SARS-CoV-2 transmission. It adds that prolonged or intermittent social distancing might be necessary until 2022 to make sure critical care capacities are not exceeded.

However, it is speculation made by experts and the COVID-19 pandemic is an ongoing concern. Therefore information, calculations, and speculations regarding it are subject to change.

The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation. For reliable advice on COVID-19 including symptoms, prevention and available treatment, please refer to the World Health Organisation or your national healthcare authority.
