The Singapore Health ministry has updated the guidance, which recommends everyone to avoid strenuous exercise for about a week after getting the jab.Following an incident involving a 16-year-old teenager who died from cardiac arrest after receiving his first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, the Singapore government recommends that newly vaccinated people should avoid physical activity for a week. The ministry is examining the underlying cause of the teenager's death.

The note mentioned 12 reports of myocarditis and pericarditis occurring in individuals following their vaccinations with mRNA COVID-19 vaccines. Seven cases were reported in males below 30 years, which is a high incidence rate for that age group. The expert committee said that there is a possibility of the condition aggravated by strenuous activities that may affect the heart. It said recent data suggested there is a significant risk among adolescents and younger men. Hence, they should avoid exercise or strenuous physical activity for at least a week after getting the jab. The committee also said that those diagnosed with myocarditis should not receive further doses of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines. However, experts recommend vaccination for all eligible persons as the benefits outweigh the risks.
