The United States congratulated India on its successful election to the United Nations Security Council as a non-permanent member.The South and Central Asia Bureau of the U.S State Department, in a tweet, extended a warm welcome to India after the country's election to the United Nations Security Council as a non-permanent member. They further wrote that they were looking forward to working with New Delhi on the issues of international peace and security.

India had obtained 184 votes out of the 192 ballots cast in the elections for the five non-permanent seats of the United States Security Council. The envoys from the member states had voted wearing masks and in adherence to the stern social distancing measures amid the COVID-19.
